Year 9 Options Information

We are committed to ensuring that all our students receive the best possible information and advice about choosing their Key Stage 4 options subjects for GCSE for study between 2024 and 2026. If you want to find more information, please see the options booklet. For further information on particular subjects, please see the presentations below.


Key dates for this year are as follows:


Week commencing 5th February – Year 9 tracking report sent home. This will provide current attainment information for each subject and give an indication of the grades that students may expect to achieve at GCSE.

Friday 23rd February – Year 9 options assembly for all students in the Theatre to explain the options process. In addition, the options booklet will be emailed to parents/carers this week for discussion at home.

Tuesday 27th February – Year 9 parents evening. This is an online event.

Week commencing 4th March – Year 9 form time videos and presentations about subjects that are new to students i.e. Business, Computer Science, Health and Social Care, Media, Photography, and Sociology .

Thursday 14th March – Year 9 options evening in school with a presentation to parents / carers from senior leaders about the options process and subject stalls in the diner and LRC where students, parents and carers can find out more about the subjects on offer. Timings for the evening:

  • 6pm - 7pm presentation to students, parents & carers of Hardcastle and Wainhouse in the Theatre followed by access to the subject stalls in the diner and LRC
  • 7pm - 8pm presentation to students, parents & carers of Shibden and Stoodley in the Theatre followed by access to the subject stalls in the diner and LRC

Friday 15th March – paper options form distributed via form tutors.

Friday 22nd March – deadline for options forms to be handed in to form tutors.

Students, parents and carers will then have the subject choices confirmed with an email home in the summer term.
